According to Hughes and Coakley they argue that there are 4 dimensions of sports ethic that athlete endure in order to play the game at its highest potential. These dimensions include sacrifice for the game, seeking distinction, taking risks, and challenging limits. They suggest that if athletes go by these 4 sports ethic ideologies it will make them a real athlete. I agree with the authors because not everyone thinks it takes a lot of handwork to sacrifice in order to be a great athlete. People only see the fame and the glory of athletes but don't see what it takes but will knock them when a bad play occurs because they think they can do better but really can't. As generations evolve, it takes more work than what it did a decade ago as athletes are more stronger an faster than ever.
As a member on the football team, every athlete has to be able to have the mindset and the 4 dimensions. There are millions of high school athletes that dream of being a Division 1 athlete but don't have the work/sports ethic to get a scholarship. A real athlete will tap into all four dimensions and if they would like to go professional they will have to do more than those 4 ethics. It is quite hard at times to sacrifice and challenge yourself to compete at the highest level due to school and personal life. As athletes train in the off season they will work to get there skills distinct from other athletes.
I completely agree that to be a Division 1 athlete, the athlete must tap all four dimensions of the sport ethic. I think without sacrifice and going beyond the four dimensions of the sport ethic, it would be extremely difficult for an athlete to succeed past high school athletics. I enjoy how you have real-life experiences from playing football at a D1 school.

Terrell I totally agree with you. A division 1 athlete can't achieve greatness without these four dimensions. You have to sacrifice in order to achieve your goals and you have great discipline. you have to push your body to extreme limits during training. You stated that people tend to criticize athletes when they commit a bad play. You being an athlete do you find yourself criticizing athletes as well when they commit a bad play?

I agree with the fact that people only see the glory of being an athlete and not the hard work behind the title. Sadly, in today's society, I don't even think hard work and sacrifice really determine the success of an athlete, but the fame through advertising and statistics. In other words, the external views outweigh the internal work and mindset.
